Butch trims list to five

Saddled with a bad back he injured earlier in the summer, Wisconsin big man Brian Butch finally trimmed his list to five – and there were no major surprises.

The 7-foot, 220-pound Butch cut Iowa, Stanford and Tennessee from the elite group – and kept Wisconsin, Arizona, North Carolina, Kansas and Marquette.

Butch has already taken an official visit to Arizona. He is scheduled to visit Chapel Hill the weekend of Sept. 13 and may take an official trip to Kansas the following weekend. However, there's a small chance that the UNC trip could be rescheduled since there is a tournament in Fort Wayne, Ind., that same weekend.

Both Wisconsin and Marquette are about 90 minutes from his home, so he will likely take unofficial visits to both campuses whenever it fits into his schedule.

While Butch is staying silent about his favorites, sources close to the situation believe that Wisconsin, North Carolina and Arizona have the best shot at landing the Appleton West High (Wis.) star.

Butch showed his competitiveness earlier this summer after he injured his back when he scored 31 points in 16 minutes of action against Northeast Ohio, including knocking down the game-winner. The back injury, however, did force him to miss the Adidas ABCD Camp in New Jersey.

"He's the most competitive kid I've ever coached," said Fox Valley Skillz head man Ritchie Davis. "For him to be that banged up and still play. Obviously, his talent speaks for itself."
