Powell Sets Second Official

Last week Tydreke Powell established the five schools he plans to take official visits with – Auburn, Florida State, Penn State, Tennessee, and Virginia Tech. Monday night, the 6-foot-4, 295-pound defensive tackle from Ahoskie (N.C.) Hertford County made another addition to his official visits schedule.

"I just set up my second official visit," said Powell. "That would be Auburn on November 11th when they play Georgia.

"I just got off the phone with their coaches and I saw them play Saturday and they're looking real good. I just like their defense. I just can't wait to get down there and see them play."

Powell has had an official visit on October 14th scheduled with Penn State for quite some time now.

Although Powell is officially visiting five schools, his final favorites list actually includes six schools.

"Carolina is up there with the other five," said Powell. "It's a top five schools I'm going to visit and Carolina. I've been there so much, so I wanted to use my [official] visits on schools I can't get to."

In addition to attending North Carolina's three-day individual camp in June and their one-day individual camp in July, Powell attended both the Rutgers and Virginia Tech games in Chapel Hill earlier this month.

Powell has yet to break the news that he's not officially visiting Chapel Hill to the North Carolina staff, who were hoping to bring him in officially during the basketball season.

"I haven't talked to North Carolina since Friday night [after my loss to Rocky Mount (N.C.) Senior]," said Powell. "They just told me to keep my head up. They said they'd be back in contact soon. I haven't had a chance to talk to them about the five official visits yet, because it was just so crazy on Friday with the loss."

With Powell averaging 12 tackles a game, Hertford County will head into their conference schedule Friday with a 4-1 record. They host Elizabeth City (N.C.) Northeastern and power tailback Daronte McNeil.
