Heels Interested in Ohio Center

North Carolina used the July open evaluation period to evaluate some prospects they weren't as familiar with. Kenny Frease is one such prospect that caught the eye of the UNC staff. While the Tar Heels haven't made him a priority recruit yet, they have been keeping tabs since.

"They've called me every once in a while," Frease said Sunday night. "They came to one of my open gyms and they were at a lot of my games in Vegas. It's not major interest but they are interested."

Carolina assistant coach Steve Robinson has been in recent contact with Frease and has expressed interest in Scout.com's No. 4-ranked center in the class of 2008.

"That was last Wednesday. They were just calling to say that they were interested and we were just talking a little bit about some different things and I was asking him about how he thought I would fit in at North Carolina."

Since the summer, the 6-11, 245-pound center from Massillon (Ohio) Perry has consistently heard from Xavier, Michigan, Notre Dame and Michigan State. He also said that West Virginia, Virginia, Penn State, Pitt, Purdue, Indiana and North Carolina have been showing interest.

All of the above schools, including Carolina, had coaches at his recent workouts. Frease has been taken visit as well, including one to Xavier, Michigan and Notre Dame this month. Is Frease interested in taking a visit to Chapel Hill?

"Next summer, for sure. If they are still interested and they've offered me a scholarship then for sure I would."

While it's still early in his recruitment, Frease said that his top three schools are Xavier, Michigan and Notre Dame.
