Richmond to Attend 'Late Night'

The Tar Heels have added another prospect to the "Late Night" visitor list. Akeem Richmond, a 6-1 sophomore combo guard at Sanford (N.C.) Southern Lee, spoke with the Carolina coaches last week and finalized plans to be in attendance.

"I know he'll be a guest at [‘Late Night'] at Carolina next Friday," Akeem's father, Eric, said. "We're looking forward to that.

"I talked with them last Thursday and that's when we knew he would be one of the guests."

Going to North Carolina basketball events is nothing new for Richmond. According to Richmond's dad, his son has been a North Carolina fan all his life and even held the ball boy position for a few years at the Smith Center.

"Akeem has always loved Carolina," the elder Richmond said. "He's been a ball boy since he was nine years old. That was his dream school. You know as you get older you start to see different things and you look at style of play and things like that. He is just kind of doing what anybody will do and look at all of his options."

While he grew up liking the Heels, Richmond is giving each school an equal shot.

"Before, there was no other school but Carolina," Eric Richmond said. "There was a time where I would think he would never take an unofficial to Duke. But then last year he was invited courtside for Duke and Carolina."

"If you looked in his room it was decorated with Carolina, but if you look in his room now there's some Wake stuff, there's some Maryland stuff and there's some Florida stuff."

Richmond has already taken unofficials to N.C. State, Duke and Wake Forest. The Southern Lee standout, who averaged 22 points a game last season, lists Florida, North Carolina, Louisville, Maryland, N.C. State, Georgia Tech and Wake Forest as his top schools.
