NBA PRESEASON: TAR HEEL STATS

THE CW'S "ONE TREE HILL" NABS FOX

* ... Look for former Tar Heel Rick Fox on four episodes of the hit teen drama "One Tree Hill" on your local CW affiliate starting November 8 (Wednesday) at 9 p.m. ET.

The show is filmed in Wilmington, North Carolina, set in a small town in North Carolina (called Tree Hill) and has a basketball-related storyline that includes loose references to North Carolina and Duke.

Fox is also involved with Magic Johnson on funding a film project about college football coaching great Eddie Robinson of Grambling, according to ESPN.com.

And he'll be back on TV in January in "Dirt," a new series on FX.

News & Notes Extras

* According to the Newark Star-Ledger, former Tar Heel Jeff McInnis, now working out in Las Vegas, has been offered $2 million of his $3.6 million guaranteed salary by the New Jersey Nets to void his contract and open a roster spot. His agent is asking for a payoff of $3.4 million for that to happen, according to a Nets official, the story goes.

* The Orlando Sentinel notes that Larry Brown, 66, attended a Hawks practice this month as a guest of Atlanta head coach Mike Woodson. Brown talked to the young players as he passed along some of the basketball wisdom that has helped him win championships with Kansas (NCAA) and Detroit (NBA).

* Florida Today reports Orlando Magic GM Otis Smith and coach Brian Hill have been very impressed by rookie free agent Jackie Manuel. With two cuts coming this week, Manuel would have to get the nod over small forward Kasib Powell (Texas Tech) and power forward James Augustine (Illinois) to make the team.
