While many of the other Tar Heel verbal commitments decided to open up their recruitment to various degrees after last month's announcing that John Bunting would not return, Jones stayed firm with his pledge and plans to continue to do so with the new coaching regime.
"Hopefully I can talk with Coach [Davis] and see if he thinks I can still be a big part of Carolina like [Coach] Bunting did," said Jones. "I really want to know what the [new] coach thinks about me. I'm still committed to Carolina."
Jones also wants to become more familiar with Davis and his coaching philosophies.
"I really don't know much about Butch, but I know he coached the Cleveland Browns and I saw that he brought Miami to a number two ranking," said Jones. "Hopefully he calls me and we can talk about this whole recruiting process."
Currently, Jones' main focus is his senior football season, which heads into the playoffs Friday with Cummings as the No. 1 seed of the 2A West Bracket. On the year, Jones has caught 48 passes for 939 and seven touchdowns.
