Butch Davis Contract Details

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. -- As Butch Davis was introduced as the new UNC head football coach Monday afternoon, the University released details of his contract.

Length - 7 years (2007-2013 football seasons)

Base Salary - $286,000 + $25,000 annual expense account

Additional Compensation - Expected to negotiate and sign individual contracts with Learfield Communications and Nike for approximately $250,000 and $150,000, respectively.

Supplemental Income - University will pay a range of $1 million in 2007 to $1.3 million in 2013

Bonuses - Standard performance bonuses for winning an ACC championship, for playing in a postseason bowl game and for the football team graduating student athletes at rate equal to or better than the student body.

Retention Clause - University will pay $100,000 into a fund in each of the first five years and $300,000 in each of the last two years of contract. The retention bonus is available after Davis is Carolina's head coach for five years.
