Sturdivant 'Excited' to Start UNC Career

One month before he's scheduled to enroll at North Carolina, the newest member of UNC's verbal commitment list, Quan Sturdivant, was among the numerous football recruits in attendance for the Tar Heels' basketball game against Kentucky.

"I just went down to watch the basketball game and talk to all the coaches," said Sturdivant. "I met Coach [Butch] Davis while I was there. I didn't talk to him much; all I did was just pretty much meet him."

Sturdivant, a 6-foot-3 220-pound jumbo athlete from Oakboro (N.C.) West Stanly, did, however, speak in-depth with Davis Thursday night.

"He was talking about the talent here, how he wants to play, [and] things he wants to do differently," said Sturdivant. "He said I'm playing linebacker."

Thus far, Davis hasn't failed to impress yet another Tar Heel pledge.

"Oh, I like him – I'm excited," said Sturdivant. "It's just the way he carries himself [and] he's had such a good career."

Before committing to UNC – and even during his short-lived time as a Florida pledge – Sturdivant has favored the Tar Heels. However, the dismissal of John Bunting made Sturdivant feel uneasy about the coaching situation at UNC. After speaking with Davis, those uneasy feelings were put to rest.

"I feel a lot more comfortable now," said Sturdivant. "He's just an honest guy."

In the coming weeks, Sturdivant will be graduating from West Stanly High School. He will then enroll at UNC on January 5th and begin attending classes on the tenth.
