Hennessey Meets with Davis

Patrick Hennessey wanted to verbally commit to North Carolina during his meeting with Butch Davis Wednesday afternoon. However, the 6-foot-2, 210-pound athlete will have to be patient and wait to see if there will be room for him at UNC.

"I did not commit because he has to work out some things with [scholarships]," said Hennessey. "The old coaching staff, they offered a bunch of kids and 18 of them committed, so ..."

Hennessey, who was accompanied by his parents, met up with Davis at Cleveland (Ohio) St. Ignatius High School and spoke to UNC's newly hired head coach for a little over an hour.

"[We talked about] academics, my feelings towards the school, my parent's feelings – pretty much everything," said Hennessey. "We talked about how they are going to use me. In different packages, I'll be in different positions. When they're in the tradition 4-3, I'll be the outside ‘WILL' linebacker. And in the 3-4, I'll be an inside [linebacker]."

Hennessey, who's fielding interest from Navy, Miami (Ohio), and Bowling Green, is going to give North Carolina a couple of weeks to sort things out.

"[I'm going to] wait it out until I know for sure what's going on," said Hennessey. "[Davis] said that he hopes to be able to give me a definite notice on the offer within the next two weeks."

Over the weekend, Hennessey officially visited North Carolina, where his teammate, Matt Merletti, verbally committed.

During his senior year, Hennessey collected 135 tackles including two sacks, recorded two interceptions, and forced two fumbles on his way to all-state honors.
