Ingram Still Plans To Visit UNC

Despite claiming his pledge to South Carolina is "pretty firm," Melvin Ingram doesn't plan on missing his official visit to North Carolina on January 19th.

"I don't see [a de-commitment] happening," said Ingram. "[I'm taking the visit] because you never know what's out there that could change your mind."

Ingram, a 6-foot-2 220-pound linebacker from Rockingham (N.C.) Richmond Senior, verbally committed to the Gamecocks following his official trip to Columbia in early December.

While in Spartanburg for the Shrine Bowl, Ingram bonded with UNC pledge Ryan Houston and was talked into officially visiting the same weekend as the tailback.

"I still talk to Ryan Houston," said Ingram. "We don't talk about much, just football."

Tommy Thigpen, Ingram's primary recruiter, also keeps in touch with Ingram.

"I talk to Coach ‘Thig,'" said Ingram. "He calls pretty often. [He talks about] just coming up there. He said if I come there, I'll have to work hard [because there's a lot of competition at linebacker]."

Ingram has informed the coaches at South Carolina that he will be visiting Chapel Hill.

"[They said] nothing really, just ‘Don't let them change your mind,'" said Ingram.

Ingram also tackled the rumors regarding his academic situation.

"There's truth to [me having academic problems], but I'm going to qualify," said Ingram. "There's a small possibility [that I might have to prep]."

Outside of UNC and USC, Ingram won't visit any other schools.
