Powell Commits to UNC

Tydreke Powell has committed to North Carolina. The 6-foot-4, 295-pound defensive tackle from Ahoskie (N.C.) Hertford County made his decision during his official visit to Chapel Hill this weekend, he told Inside Carolina Sunday afternoon.

"That's the place that I want to be," Powell said in a brief phone interview.

He is ranked the No. 3 prospect in the state of North Carolina according to Scout.com and is ranked the No. 10 defensive tackle in the nation. Powell chose the Tar Heels over offers from such schools as Virginia Tech, Clemson, Penn State, Florida and Florida State.

"[My commitment] is real strong," he added. "I'm just ready [to end my recruitment]. I'm not taking any more visits."

Powell recorded 135 tackles and 14 sacks his senior season and was named to the Shrine Bowl. He also added four touchdowns in limited action at fullback.

Check back Sunday evening for more on Powell's commitment.
