After meetings, Paulus, who was hosted by Chase Rice, spent a lot of time with newly hired offensive coordinator/quarterbacks coach John Shoop.
"We're getting closer everyday and talking all the time," said Paulus. "We really clicked while we were watching film.
"He's trying to maximize my potential and I trust him. I want him to help me as much as he can. We both want to get after it. We want to win fast, we don't want to wait. We're both real big competitors and he's real intense and I like that."
Shoop didn't really talk offense schemes, instead focusing on fine tuning Paulus' skills.
"We mainly just talked about quarterback development," said Paulus. "Drills and stuff like that to make me better – better footwork, better mechanics. We didn't really talk about Xs and Os."
Shoop also touched a little bit on the quarterback situation heading into the 2007 season.
"We didn't get in-depth about it, but they expect me to come in and compete and hopefully be a contributor," said Paulus. "There're no guarantees about playing time, so I just got to go in there and battle, keep a level head, and continue to get better and work hard.
"I know that there's a spot that's available [at starting quarterback] and I got to work my tail off to get it. I'm competing with a bunch of guys."
Before leaving Sunday afternoon, Paulus had an opportunity to hang out with some of the team.
"It was pretty cool to see what the guys were like," said Paulus. "They were able to give me details about how it is down there, how hard you have to work, [and] what the workouts are like. So it was good to get around them."
