Givens, a 6-foot-2 290-pound defensive tackle from Miami (Fla.) Columbus, began to receive interest from North Carolina after Davis' hiring.
"They haven't been on me very long – maybe a few months," said Givens. "I've been talking to Coach [John] Blake and Charlie Williams."
Givens, who was hosted by fellow defensive tackle Kyndraus Guy, enjoyed his official visit to Chapel Hill.
"It went really good," said Givens. "Mostly I just chilled with some of the players."
Additionally, Givens spent ample time with the Tar Heels' coaching staff where – among other things – they discussed the possibility of a UNC scholarship offer.
"They're not sure how many scholarships they have, so they said they'll let me know either Tuesday or Wednesday," said Givens.
If North Carolina were to offer, Givens isn't sure how that would affect his recruitment. However, he said he admires the coaching staff's honesty throughout his recruitment and sees the benefits of attending UNC.
"Most schools I feel like they just try to jerk my chain," said Givens. "But the thing I like about UNC, the coaches are straight forward with you. I like Butch Davis and Coach Blake.
"Everybody knows what [Blake] did with his defensive line at Nebraska. They led [the nation] in sacks [and] the year before that they had the top rated defensive line.
"Both [Davis and Blake] coached in the NFL, so they have connections. I just feel like the sky's the limit with North Carolina."
During his senior season, Givens collected 70 tackles, eight sacks, five forced fumbles, and three fumble recoveries.
