Wheaties Honors UNC Basketball

CHAPEL HILL, N.C.--Wheaties, the cereal also known as "The Breakfast of Champions" has chosen to honor the tradition of one of college basketball's greatest programs.

Wheaties wishes to honor the five-time national basketball champions with an interlocking "NC" logo over the backdrop of the home court in the Dean E. Smith Center. Additionally, the Tar Heels have won 15 ACC Tournament Championships in producing some of most gifted players and incredible moments in sports history.

The back of the box displays an image of the team cutting the net from the rim after a victory along with the school mascot.

"It is a treamendous honor and compliment for the Carolina Basketball program to become a part of history with Wheaties," said Director of Athletics Dick Baddour. "The front of the Wheaties Box is an American Icon. We are proud to be displayed on the cover and appreciate the Wheaties recognition of Carolina Basketball's success."

The 18-ounce Wheaties package is now available regionally, mostly concentrated in North Carolina, with no predetermined number of units or time frame of distribution.

"It's an honor and a privilege to feature the men's basketball program on this special-edition Breakfast of Champions package," said Dan Stangler, Wheaties brand manager. "Bringing two championship traditions like those of Wheaties and UNC together in this unique manner is undoubtedly a proud moment for us."

Other featured college teams include the University of Georgia Bulldogs, University of Kentucky Wildcats, University of Michigan Wolverines, University of Nebraska Cornhuskers, Northwestern University Wildcats University of Notre Dame Fighting Irish, Texas A&M , Texas Western University, and the University of Texas Longhorns.
