Euwell, a 6-foot-2 210-pound defensive end, originally verbally committed to N.C. State last May, but began to strongly consider the Tar Heels when both schools made coaching changes.
NC State gave Euwell an ultimatum this week, unwilling to wait for him to decide on his own terms.
"Wednesday they decided they needed a yes or no and he told them he still wanted to wait till this coming Sunday to make a decision," said Cobb. "As a result they told him they were going to pull his scholarship; they needed to go somewhere else."
With the pledge, North Carolina is adding a prospect with fantastic potential.
"They're getting a young man with a tremendous amount of upside to him," said Cobb. "He's a great person, a hard worker, and these last three years where I was fortunate enough to coach him when we needed a big play on the defensive side of the ball he made them. [He's] a tremendous athlete with tremendous speed, tremendous vertical, and just tough as nails. They're getting a guy that going probably add 20-30 pounds over the next three years and run as fast as he can now."
As a senior, Euwell was named to the Associated Press All-State Team after collecting 78 tackles including 24 for a loss and 11 sacks.
