Ramsay Picks UNC at Last Minute

Although Devon Ramsay surprised many who follow UNC recruiting by surfacing on North Carolina's 2007 signee list Wednesday morning, the decision to sign with the Tar Heels surprised nobody within Ramsay's circle.

"I made the decision this morning," said Ramsay. "I've been talking to them for awhile and I went and visited there so many coaches weren't really surprised."

Ramsay, a 6-foot-2 245-pound jumbo athlete from Lawrenceville (N.J.) Prep, signed with UNC over scholarship offers from Maryland, Villanova, and William and Mary.

"I want to be a part of something special," said Ramsay. "Butch Davis is going to switch around the mentality [about UNC football] and is going to win a national championship. I want a chance to win a national championship.

"Also, all the coaches are amazing – Coach Davis, Coach [Steve] Hagen ..."

Although North Carolina's school press release lists him as an athlete, Ramsay says the Tar Heels are recruiting him as a tailback.

"I've just got to work hard," said Ramsay. "They are going to see what I can do. If I can't play tailback, I can't."

If Ramsay receives the opportunity to carry the ball for the Tar Heels, expect to see a power ‘back with speed.

"I'm a threat to score every time I touch the ball," said Ramsay. "I'm a big runner with quickness."

A Scout.com three-star recruit, Ramsay is the sixth ranked fullback in the nation by Scout.com.

In just nine games, Ramsay rushed for 1,038 yards and 16 touchdowns during his senior season. He also collected 42 tackles, six sacks, and one interception.

Ramsay says that he "completely qualifies" and will enroll in the earliest summer semester possible.
