In-State Junior ATH Picks Up UNC Offer

Last week ended well for Brandon Barnes, a talented wide receiver from Bunn, N.C. He picked up his first two offers -- both from in-state ACC programs.

"I had a UNC coach call the school [on Friday] to talk with me about the school, and then he offered me," said the 6-foot, 180-pound athlete.

"It sounded pretty good. He said congratulations and they wanted to send me a scholarship. It was mind-blowing, and it all just happened so fast."

The next day, Barnes took a trip to NC State for an unofficial visit and to watch a Wolfpack basketball game.

"First, they showed me all the facilities and then they took me to Coach [Tom] O'Brien's office and offered me after that. They said they were trying to get the program started back up and talked about basically about how I could be a big part of what they want to do."

Barnes, whose former teammate Kerry Neal committed to Notre Dame last spring one day after the Irish offered, does not plan to make a decision in the near future.

"I'm thinking that I'm going to wait a long time, so I want to wait and see what else comes for me."

Expected to be a nationally recruited prospect, Barnes brings quite a bit of versatility to the game , which will increase his stock on the recruiting trail.

"I can run kicks, I can catch, and I can play some running back. If I could pick a position, I would say wide receiver."

Sporting 4.4 40-yard-dash speed, Barnes rushed 70 times for 452 yards and five touchdowns and caught nine passes for 267 yards and four touchdowns as a junior for Bunn.
