On the loss to NC State -

It ranks up there as one of the very toughest losses. It's a state rival, and we're close. You always want to beat those teams. It wasn't one of those games where they rattle one in on a buzzer beater; they had us pretty much the whole game. It was very disappointing.

On the desirable tempo versus NC State -

We like to speed the game up and have an up and down game, so whatever helps us do that is what we'll try to do tomorrow.

On taking teams too lightly -

You could blame it on youth, but there's really no excuse, especially in conference where anybody can beat anybody. You can't take anybody lightly. Virginia Tech and State are different, but you have to bring your game. You can't just sit back and give people open shots.

On getting the ball in the low post and kicking it out -

A lot of times if I pass it out, I'm going to get better position inside. Part of it's me – I have to assert myself more, but there are a lot of things I can do with the ball when I get it inside.

On Ty Lawson dealing with adversity as opposed to when he was in high school -

I think it's difficult, but he'll learn from experiences. It's tough; it's a transition, but teams realize how quick and talented he is. They slow him down at the top to try and stop his penetration.

On why he sometimes flashes the tired signal just minutes into the game -

Sometimes I go out there and get pretty hyped up before the game, and I waste a lot of energy and have to come out.
