Maddox Favors Three

Middle linebacker Duane Maddox favors three schools at this time. Maddox, from Shelby (N.C.) Crest High School, has five major scholarship offers as well.

One of the nation's top linebackers for the Class of 2008 is Duane Maddox. Maddox, 6-2 and 220 pounds, is from Shelby (N.C.) Crest High School. Last season as a junior he recorded 110 tackles.

"I am a tackler that is fundamentally sound," said Maddox. "I use my speed to play sideline to sideline and I bring the heat. I still need some work on my coverage skills but I am getting there."

Maddox looks the part on film. He plays in the middle and is at his best when things come to him. Maddox defeats blocks and goes and gets the ball. He fills the hole tremendously well and super quick in getting through the gap to get to the ball carrier. Maddox is a big hitter that plays until the whistle blows. He plays well laterally and will chase the play no matter where on the field. Maddox is big, physical and very aggressive.

In terms of recruiting Maddox claims scholarship offers from North Carolina, N.C. State, Clemson, South Carolina and Alabama. Yes it is early in the recruiting process but he has three favorites at this time.

"I really like North Carolina, N.C. State and Clemson right now. I also like Florida and Notre Dame.

"North Carolina has a nice defensive tradition. I like the new staff. They seem pretty cool. I spoke with them two days ago.

"I also like the way N.C. State has played defense. Those (new) coaches seem pretty cool too.

"Clemson is a school where I really like their environment. Death Valley is awesome. It is an experience.

"Florida has been talking to me and I like their program and how they play on defense.

"Oh man Notre Dame… They go way back and have so much tradition. I like them too.

"I just want to find a place where I feel comfortable, where I fit in with the defense and where I can hopefully contribute early."

Maddox is planning on attending junior days at South Carolina (March 3) and North Carolina (March 4) early next month.
