Heels Get No. 1 Seed in East Bracket

North Carolina is the second No. 1 seed, and has been placed in the East Region in Winston-Salem. The Tar Heels will open play Thursday night around 9:50 p.m. against Eastern Kentucky.

"We are extremely excited about our season and about earning a No. 1 seed," Roy Williams said. "As always, we're excited about being a part of the NCAA Tournament. We should have some confidence from winning the ACC Tournament, but as I've always said, you build your momentum in the NCAA Tournament. I'm pleased for our fans that we're staying in North Carolina. Hopefully, we'll give them a good showing.

For senior Reyshawn Terry, it'll be a return home.

"I'm very excited to be playing at home in Winston-Salem, but my main focus is on doing what we need to do," he said. "My mom might be more excited than I am. I don't even know how many ticket requests I'm going to get."

Though being a No. 1 seed and playing the opening games in-state doesn't guarantee wins.

"I'm very excited to be in a No. 1 position, but at the same time we've got a long road ahead," Marcus Ginyard said. "Right now, we have to take things one game at a time and focus on Thursday's game. It's great to stay so close to home so we don't have to travel very far. Hopefully, we'll get some good fan support there."

Should the Tar Heels advance, their second round game would be against the Michigan State/Marquette winner on Saturday at approximately 8:20 p.m.
