"If you're successful," Doherty said, "recruiting is the most important thing. You have to have players. You can be a great coach, but if you're coaching mediocre talent, you're not going to win.
"You have to get the players there."
Doherty and Bunting are still caught up in coaching transitions, trying to overcome recruiting mistakes of their predecessors and the attrition that often accompanies any big shift in coaching staffs.
