Drew Proving His Worth

ATLANTA --- Larry Drew looked like one of the best guards in the 2008 class this weekend at the adidas Nation event. The 6-foot-1 junior is a smooth lead guard that can heat up quickly from downtown. During the workouts Drew caught fire in a drill that had him going back and forth from wing to baseline shooting jumpers.

Drew also excelled in drills that helped the players finish around the basket. In one exercise Drew drained a half dozen floaters in a row and was able to utilize either hand.

"I've been playing alright under the circumstances," Drew said after the workout. "I came out here on Thursday and have been hanging out with my dad and watching the practices. After the Hawks practices I've been getting worked out."

During the scrimmages Drew filled the lanes and created for his teammates. He was also able to get his hands in the passing lanes and drained a fade away three from the corner. After the scrimmage Drew talked recruiting and he said he is beginning to narrow his list down.

"I'm narrowing it down to a few schools, but it's going pretty smoothly. My top three are Arizona, North Carolina and UCLA. But there are a few other schools that I would like to take a look at too. Like I know Louisville wants me to go check out their campus while I'm over here because I'll be here until next Saturday."

Since December, Drew has claimed the Tar Heels as the favorite and that hasn't changed because of the school's tradition and Roy Williams.

"Carolina is a great program and Roy Williams is a great guy. They've shown the most interest of anybody up to this point. I just like the whole tradition and they have a great coach."

Drew said he is aiming to announce a decision before the end of the summer.
