Whitlock, a 5-foot-11 180-pound athlete from Chester (S.C.), has also visited Duke, South Carolina, and Tennessee. He plans to make trips to Auburn and Florida over the summer.
During his UNC visit, Whitlock toured the campus, where he received an in-depth look at the football facilities.
"The campus stood out to me," said Whitlock. "The whole campus stood out to me – it was something I wasn't expecting."
Whitlock's stay concluded with a one-on-one conversation with UNC head coach Butch Davis.
"At first he told me about how I have to get good grades," said Whitlock. "And then [he was talking about] how North Carolina is about to start winning, and he'd love me to play up there."
Although Whitlock neglects to name favorites, he left Chapel Hill with a positive impression.
"I'm really looking at all the schools the same, but I really like North Carolina after that visit," said Whitlock, who has been offered by the Tar Heels.
Whitlock, who holds over 20 scholarship offers including the likes of Auburn, Florida, and Ohio State, will come out of the summer with a final five.
"Probably in the middle of the summer I'll narrow it down to five," said Whitlock. "I want to visit all the schools I want to visit, first."
Whitlock and his primary recruiter at UNC, Sam Pittman, communicate daily through text messages.
North Carolina – just like everyone else that is recruiting him – is recruiting Whitlock as an athlete.
"They told me I'll end up playing wide receiver and DB," said Whitlock.
For Chester, Whitlock stars at quarterback and cornerback. Following his junior season, he received All-State and All-Region honors after accounting for 26 all-purpose touchdowns. He passes for 1,500 yards, rushed for 800 yards, and collected four interceptions.
