UNC Among Schools After Ga. WR

After playing his junior season in the shadows of Alabama signee Darius Hanks, Brice Butler came into the recruiting season unheralded. However, in a matter of weeks, he quickly became recognized as one of the top wide receiver prospects in the nation.

"As soon as my tape got out I started to blow up," said Butler.

North Carolina is among the schools throughout the nation that have inquired about Butler, a 6-foot-3 190-pounder from Norcross (Ga.).

"I talked to Coach [Tommy] Thigpen a couple of times and I think they offered me, but I'm not sure," said Butler. "We just talk about a lot of stuff."

Butler has already lost count of his scholarship offers, but he estimates that he has received 40-plus offers. His offers list is highlighted by Alabama, Florida, Georgia, LSU, Notre Dame, Penn State, and Southern Cal.

Much of Butler's spring was spent making unofficial visits throughout the nation. His travels brought him to Arizona State, Florida, Florida State, LSU, Notre Dame, Penn State, Southern Cal, and Virginia.

Butler figures to entertain an equally hectic summer with trips to Oregon and Oregon State already scheduled. However, Butler says he doesn't know if he will make a visit to UNC.

He said he doesn't have any favorites, but he will begin to narrow his options down by the end of the summer.

"I'm looking for playing time, really," said Butler.

Despite sharing the ball with Hanks, Butler caught 35 passes for 680 yards and nine touchdowns.
