Thomas, a 5-foot-11 170-pound tailback from Fort Washington (Md.) Friendly, will be on the UNC campus this coming weekend.
Although UNC is conducting their three-day camp, Thomas won't participate. He will, however, participate in a track meet being held in North Carolina over the weekend.
Thomas, who only visited Illinois during the spring, plans to also visit Florida, Ohio State, Penn State, and Tennessee and maybe Boston College this summer.
Heading into the weekend's visit, UNC is already in a good position.
"UNC is in my top five, right now," said Thomas. "I know Butch Davis is a great coach and I see myself being able to get on the field early. Plus, the track program is pretty good."
Florida, Illinois, Ohio State, and Tennessee round out the remainder of Thomas' top five. He has collected 31 scholarship offers including offers from each member of his top five.
With a solid favorites list and a busy travel schedule, Thomas is looking to make his collegiate decision by the end of September. Before committing, he might entertain a few official visits, but he doesn't believe that will be necessary with all of his summer trips.
"[I'm looking for] playing time, style of play, being able to be coached by a good coaching staff, being able to run track, and another plus would be a good communications program," said Thomas.
Thomas runs the 100- and 200-meter dash, with best times of 10.30 and 21.40 seconds, respectively.
On the football field, Thomas has rushed for more than 1,500 yards and 10 touchdowns in two years, while sharing the backfield with Florida signee Joe Haden and fellow Division I-A prospect Josh Haden.
