Decision Looming for Maddox

Elite in-state prospect Dwayne Maddox is getting closer to pulling the trigger with a verbal commitment.

"Probably, either a couple weeks or maybe a month [I'll verbally commit]," said Maddox. "I really don't want to say too much about it; I'm trying to keep it low-key right now."

Maddox, a 6-foot-1 220-pound linebacker from Shelby (N.C.) Crest, is down to three schools – Clemson, North Carolina, and NC State.

Clemson: "I like the campus and the stadium."

North Carolina: "They've got a lot of tradition. The coaches are pretty cool. They got a great recruiting class last year."

NC State: "The coaches that are there, they're pretty loyal. They got state-of-the-art facilities [that provide] a great opportunity for you to learn and perfect the sport of football."

For the next couple of days or weeks, Maddox said he will be doing "a lot of thinking."

"Thinking about all the keys – like the goods and bads of the schools – and just thinking about making my decision," said Maddox.

"[I want to go to the school that is] the best for me athletically and academically."

Before deciding, Maddox said there's a strong possibility that he will make a couple of unofficial visits.

But don't expect too much advanced warning when Maddox makes his decision.

"I don't know if I'll make a date, but it'll just have to be the right time," said Maddox.
