"My top five is Michigan, Clemson, Rutgers, Virginia Tech, and UNC."
Wilson, a 6-foot-3 225-pounder from McKees Rocks (Pa.) Montour, says he hasn't officially eliminated any school.
"Right now, every school is still basically in it," said Wilson. "Schools aren't going to be out until I make my decision. So basically every school is still in it until my decision is made."
While UNC is one of the schools recruiting him the heaviest, Wilson says it was the coaching staff that earned UNC a spot in his top five.
"I know the program has been down for a while, but the coaches seem like they're going to switch the program real fast," said Wilson. "I want to go somewhere where the program is coming up."
Wilson is being recruited by UNC offensive coordinator John Shoop, but communicates just as much with tight end coach Steve Hagen since UNC is recruited him for that position.
Wilson said he doesn't have a leader among his top five, but is working towards making a final decision.
"If I can [make a decision], I want to," said Wilson. "But I'm not too sure with what it's looking like."
Ideally, Wilson would like to make a verbal commitment before his senior football season. If that's not possible, he'll take official visits and have a decision shortly thereafter.
"Basically, if I feel comfortable with going there, the coaches, the players, the area, the distance – different things like that," said Wilson. "If I'm comfortable with the school and I want to go there, I can't see why I [wouldn't commit]."
Wilson says that the odds of a preseason decision are "pretty high."
"I'm starting to get it down now, I'm just trying to figure out what ones I really like," said Wilson. "I like so much about every school [in my top five]. Now I just have to find the negatives about the schools – if I can find negatives about them – and see if I can drop it from there."
Unofficial visits have played a major role in Wilson's recruitment. He has most recently returned from Rutgers and will make a trip to Florida at the end of July.
