Fowlkes Favoring UNC

Following his first visit to North Carolina in early June, Steven Fowlkes developed a leader. Since then, that hasn't changed.

"[UNC is] my leader right now," said Fowlkes. "I like the school. I like my position coach and head coach."

Fowlkes, a 6-foot-5 215-pound defensive end from College Park (Ga.) Banneker, still plans on making a verbal commitment before the start of his senior football season.

In early June, Fowlkes participated in UNC's one-day camp. After registering for the camp that morning, Fowlkes was escorted up to Butch Davis' office.

"He told me what the deal is going to be," said Fowlkes. "I'll come in and after I gain my weight I'll get playing time."

Fowlkes then participated in both of the camp's practice sessions, working out with defensive line coach and recruiting coordinator John Blake.

"It was a real good experience, I learned a lot," said Fowlkes. "In the short time, I learned a lot."

Following the camp, Fowlkes continues to speak to Blake weekly.

"He talks about the learning experience I'll get if I come to the school," said Fowlkes.

Since UNC's camp, Fowlkes hasn't made any other recruiting visits.

Before making a verbal commitment, Fowlkes said he will entertain several unofficial visits including a possible return visit to UNC. However, no plans have been set.

Fowlkes has been offered by more than a dozen schools including Louisville, Mississippi, Purdue, South Carolina, and Tennessee.
