Womble, a 5-foot-11 215-pound tailback from Sierra Vista (Ariz.) Buena, attended one practice session of UNC's three-day team camp and impressed the coaching staff. However, with Davis at the ACC Kickoff in Pinehurst, a scholarship could not be offered while Womble was in town.
"It was a relief because I've been waiting on it," said Womble. "They couldn't offer during the camp because Coach Davis was out. He got back and they told him about me and they said they wanted to offer. After he watched the film and everyone told him about my camp performance, he said the offer is there."
Womble is originally from the North Carolina coast and says his family members are UNC fans.
"I'm where I want to be with my recruitment," he said. "I'm not going to commit, but I'm going to set up an official visit [to UNC]."
Womble, who holds offers from other favorites Nebraska and South Carolina, says the offer firmly entrenches UNC among his favorite schools.
"It changes a lot," said Womble. "It was basically a Nebraska-South Carolina fight, with Wisconsin in the mix. But now, North Carolina, they're right up there with South Carolina and Nebraska."
Womble has already scheduled official visits to both Nebraska (September 14th) and South Carolina (November 24th). The UNC visit has been tentatively scheduled for the Oct. 6 weekend that includes Carolina's game against Miami at Kenan Stadium.
