It is decision time for Joe Kedra (6-4, 223), a standout linebacker from Camden (N.J.) Catholic. Kedra plans to attend the Georgia Tech game and may, or may not, make his collegiate decision at that time.
"We're getting up and driving down at 5:00 a.m. for the Georgia Tech game," said Kedra on Wednesday.
North Carolina's need for linebackers is well documented, and a verbal commitment from Kedra would be huge at this stage of UNC recruiting. Kedra is playing the decision close to the vest, though he intends to decide soon after the visit between the Tar Heels and Penn State.
"That's my plan," Kedra said. "I am ready to make a decision. Penn State and North Carolina are my two favorites. I wanted to visit both before I made my decision. I am not going down to Chapel Hill with the idea that I am going to commit but rather I will use my visit to help me decide. That may mean that I commit to North Carolina or decide on Penn State."
Kedra indicated that his decison could come during the visit to Chapel Hill.
Kedra visited Penn State for the Nebraska game and the reports were that though he was awed by the atmosphere at Happy Valley, North Carolina was still the co-leader for this standout linebacker.
Kedra's team, Camden Catholic, is 2-0 so far this season, but the last game was a blowout for Camden and Kedra played sparingly.
North Carolina already has a verbal commitment from Kedra's teammate, quarterback Nick Cangelosi.
Though Kedra's decision will come down to Penn State and North Carolina, he has offers from those two teams and Nebraska, Boston College, Maryland, Rutgers, Virginia, and Virginia Tech.
