71Carl Gaskins 6-5245Fr/Fr NR

Along the offensive line, tackle is not just the primary concern, but it is the only concern of the UNC coaching staff for its 2008 recruiting efforts.

Outside of the two tackles, UNC potentially goes four deep at every other O-line position.

Additionally, while recruiting rankings mean little once a player lines up on a college football field, it should be noted that Zack Handerson is the only tackle nationally ranked coming out of high school.

With all that said, UNC is looking to bring in two tackles with the 2008 recruiting class. Offensive line coach Sam Pittman favors tall, mobile tackles.

Targets With Offers
Barrett Jones

6'5" 260 lbs. 4.90 Memphis (Tenn.) Evangelical Christian HS
Jones has publicly stated that he has narrowed his list of choices to five schools, but won't publicly release the members of that list just yet. He has made unofficial visits to Alabama, Auburn, Florida, Mississippi, Missouri, UNC, Tennessee, and Vanderbilt. All of the aforementioned schools have offered.
Bobby Massie

6'7" 330 lbs. 5.25 Lynchburg (Va.) Christian Academy
Massie earned a UNC offer with his performance at the Tar Heels' most recent camp. While he is interested in UNC, Massie  is currently favoring Georgia, Clemson, and Virginia Tech -- all have offered. Massie, who has made three trips to UNC, says he will decide after taking all five of his official visits.
R.J. Mattes

6'6" 235 lbs. 5.10 Concord (N.C.) Robinson High School
Recently Mattes narrowed his list of schools to five -- Clemson, UNC, NC State, South Carolina, and Virginia. While doesn't claim a leader, Mattes plans to officially visit all five schools before making a verbal commitment. He does have family ties to UVa (his father played there) and NC State (his father played with head coach Tom O'Brien).
Kenneth Page

6'4" 285 lbs. 5.2 Columbia (S.C.) Flora High School
Page, who claims over 30 offers, will name a final ten schools in the coming weeks. Assisting his cause were a slew of unofficial visits, including trips to Alabama, Auburn, Duke, Maryland, UNC, NC State, South Carolina, Tennessee, and West Virginia. North Carolina appears in good shape to make the cut. UNC is recruiting Page as a tackle, but he could also play guard at the next level.
Andrew Wallace

6'5" 260 lbs. 4.75 Charlotte (N.C.) Olympic High School
Wallace is looking to have his decision made before the start of his senior football season (8/17). UNC appears to be trailing both NC State and Tennessee at this point. In early-July Wallace visited the three aforementioned schools, as well as Maryland and Virginia Tech. He has also camped at UNC. Wallace burst onto the recruiting radar during the spring when he clocked a 4.76-second 40-yard dash time.

79Calvin Darity 6-3 295Sr/Jr9

70Alan Pelc 6-6 320So/FrNR
67Morgan Randall 6-6275 So/FrNR
77Kevin Bryant 6-7375 Fr/Fr27

Guard appears to be a position UNC will focus on with the 2009 recruiting class. It will only be addressed with this class if more scholarships open up than are anticipated.

UNC won't lose a guard following this season, but three will be departing the following year.

Incoming freshmen Kevin Bryant, Mike Dykes, and Cam Holland all have the potential to play guard.

2007 Scholarship Roster
# Name Ht Wt Cl/El Rk
64Scott Lenahan 6-1290 Gr/Sr47 (DT)
66 Mike Ingersoll 6-4 265So/FrNR
65Cameron Holland 6-2275 Fr/Fr78

Just like guard, center will be an afterthought for this recruiting class despite losing Scott Lenahan after this season.

Prior to arriving on campus, both Mike Dykes and Cam Holland were asked to practice snapping the ball with the quarterback under center and in shotgun.

Additionally, Mike Ingersoll has four years of eligibility remaining, while walk-on sophomore Lowell Dyer worked out with the second team offense during the spring.
