From both a quantity and quality standpoint, defensive end is one of the more important position concerns for this recruiting class.

UNC will graduate a D-end following each of the coming seasons, including pass rush specialist Hilee Taylor following this year.

The UNC coaching staff is looking to bring in at least two defensive ends in this class, with an emphasis on pass rushing.

Incoming freshman Linwan Euwell arrives listed as a linebacker, but could follow Taylor's footsteps by beefing up to moved to end after a year at linebacker.

Targets With Offers
E.J. Abrams-Ward

6'4" 205 lbs. 4.60 Thomasville (N.C.) High School
Abrams-Ward is one of the most versatile athletes in the nation. He could legitimately play QB, TE, WR, DE, and LB at the collegiate level. He's a prospect that UNC just wants on its roster. Abrams-Ward, who has been offered by roughly 15 schools, isn't claiming any favorites. He has only attended two camps this summer and both were at UNC.
Quinton Coples

6'6" 230 lbs. 4.90 Kinston (N.C.) High School
Recruiting seems to be somewhat of an afterthought for Coples. He hasn't made any visits this summer, and only visited UNC during the spring. Unsurprisingly, he says he doesn't have any favorites. Coples reports to have over 30 offers. For the last several months, his academic situation has been the subject of rumors and uncertainty, as well as the possibility that he might transfer high schools.
Steven Fowlkes

6'5" 215 lbs. 4.65 College Park (Ga.) Banneker HS
Fowlkes crowned UNC his leader after camping there in June. Outside of that camp, Fowlkes hasn't made any other recruiting trips this summer. Fowlkes, who claims over a dozen offers, doesn't have a timetable for a verbal commitment -- he would, however, like to make a return visit to UNC this fall. The Tar Heel staff is of the opinion that Fowlkes is a highly underrated prospect.
Michael McAdoo

6'7" 220 lbs. 4.80 Antioch (Tenn.) High School
Recently McAdoo narrowed his list of schools to five -- Mississippi, UNC, South Carolina, Tennessee, and Vanderbilt. He holds around ten offers, doesn't have a leader, and plans on taking all five of his official visits before making a verbal commitment. McAdoo has yet to visit UNC, but has traveled to Ole Miss and Vandy.
Robert Quinn

6'4" 240 lbs. 4.80 North Charleston (S.C.) Fort Dorchester
Quinn is amid a hectic travel schedule that has already brought him to Alabama, Auburn, Maryland, and Rutgers. He will visit Florida and Florida State this weekend, and will make a return visit to UNC before the end of the summer. Quinn plans on using the aforementioned visits to develop a favorites list. He has collected around 20 offers.
Keith Wells

6'5" 210 lbs. 4.80 Gainesville (Ga.) High School
Wells recently eliminated UNC from consideration when he narrowed his list of choices to Auburn, Florida, and Florida State. Wells is high on UNC's recruiting board, and thus the coaching staff won't let up in its efforts. Wells camped at UNC in the summer.

Tackle

2007 Scholarship Roster

# Name Ht Wt Cl/El Rk
90Kentwan Balmer 6-5 288Sr/Sr67
93Cam Thomas 6-3315 Jr/So52
9Marvin Austin 6-3295 Fr/Fr1
91Tydreke Powell 6-3290 Fr/Fr10
Nose Tackle
# Name Ht Wt Cl/El Rk
74Kyndraus Guy 6-2280 Gr/Sr112 (OL)
96Tavares Brown 6-0275 So/So78
97Aleric Mullins 6-3 285So/So31

Despite losing potential starters Kentwan Balmer and Kyndraus Guy to graduation after this season, the UNC coaching staff feels pretty comfortable about the situation at defensive tackle. Putting their thoughts at ease is the arrival of incoming freshmen Marvin Austin and Tydreke Powell, who were both ranked in the top ten at defensive tackle.

Therefore, tackle isn't a huge need for the 2008 recruiting class. Outside of an elite talent, UNC won't be adding a D-tackle this year.

Another incoming freshman, Devon Ramsay, who is listed as an "athlete" on UNC's roster, could eventually end up at defensive tackle.
