Mapp, Tate Earn ACC Honors

Tar Heels Durell Mapp and Brandon Tate earned ACC Players of the Week honors, announced Monday.

Burlington, N.C. native Durell Mapp of the North Carolina Tar Heels has been chosen as the Atlantic Coast Conference Defensive Back of the Week. Mapp, a junior outside linebacker, had 18 tackles, including one for a loss, in North Carolina's last-second defeat at East Carolina. With 27 total tackles in his first two games, Mapp now leads the ACC and ranks ninth nationally in tackles.

North Carolina's Brandon Tate has been tabbed the Atlantic Coast Conference's Specialist of the Week. Tate, a junior from Burlington, N.C., returned a punt 58 yards for a touchdown in the Tar Heels' 34-31 loss at East Carolina, tying a school-record for career kick returns for touchdowns with five. He also added 100 yards on kickoff returns in the game, including one 49-yarder to set up a North Carolina touchdown. For the game, Tate finished with 263 all-purpose yards.
