Cheek Picks Up UNC Offer

Dominic Cheek and Roy Williams chatted on the phone a few times, but the North Carolina head coach had yet to offer a scholarship. On Monday that changed -- and this apparently throws a curve ball in Cheek's recruitment.

"Roy came in today to watch me play," said Cheek, a 6-5, 180-pound wing. "I was playing well and he just offered me right on the spot. My coach from St. Anthony's (N.J.) talked to him and I shook his hand."

"Coach Hurley came up to me and said that [Roy Williams] loves me and all that and he offered me a scholarship."

Cheek, who just recently took an unofficial visit to Wake Forest, has a number of schools trailing him. To go with the Deacs and Tar Heels, he's also hearing from Kentucky, Miami, Ohio State, Rutgers, Syracuse, Georgetown and Pittsburgh.

While a number of those schools have had scholarship offers on the table for quite some time, the Tar Heel offer could change his entire recruitment.

"North Carolina is a great school," Cheek said. "I think I would want to go to that school, but we will have to wait and see. They would be one of my top five choices. I'm really happy that they offered me - that is one of my dream schools."

When pressed on his top schools, Cheek could only go to three. He mentioned North Carolina, Villanova and Wake Forest as his top choices at this time. Cheek also said that he's hoping to set up a visit to UNC soon.

"I'm going to try and see when I'm open," Scout.com's 7th overall prospect in the class of 2009 said. "I want to go down there and check it out."
