UNC-ASU: Koetter Quotes

TEMPE, Ariz. – Arizona State football coach Dirk Koetter was clearly unhappy his team could not pull out a victory over North Carolina despite amassing 657 total yards and 34 first downs. Here is what Koetter had to say about his team's second loss in six games.

Opening remarks

This game did have an uphill battle type of feel to it. We really have no one to blame for that but ourselves. We had some opportunities and we were down inside their 30 at least five times without getting points. And that's just not going to get it done at this level. We had some guys that played really well and made plays, but the Sun Devils as a team didn't put enough plays together at the right time and you have to give North Carolina credit.

This hurts a lot and I hate to lose. But I like this football team and I'm proud of these guys. Thatw as a great college football game. I wanted to win and our players really wanted to win and there are some hurt guys downstairs right now.

On their inconsistency

Our performance was inconsistent tonight. We had some spectacular plays and some not-so-spectacular plays. North Carolina did a good job of mixing it up and they made plays when they had to make them.

On Darian Durant's performance

Darian hurt us a few times tonight where he escaped the initial rush and was floating around and then made a play downfield. That hurts and that is what a good quarterback will do.
