Kelly Checks Out Chapel Hill

The Tar Heel staff welcomed a couple of in-state standouts this past weekend. Not only was John Wall on campus, but Ryan Kelly also made the trip to Chapel Hill for an unofficial visit.

"I played with the players on Friday afternoon because they weren't playing on Saturday," said Kelly, a junior at Raleigh (N.C.) Ravenscroft. "Then I came back on Saturday and got to look through all of the facilities, meet with Coach Williams and watch the football game."

Although Kelly holds scholarship offers from a number of ACC programs already, the Tar Heels haven't offered yet. During his meeting with coach Williams, Kelly did get the impression that UNC would certainly be keeping tabs on him.

"He seemed very exciting in recruiting me and seemed very interested, but at the same time he said he wanted to get the chance to see me play some more during the high school season," Kelly said of his conversation with UNC's head coach.

"Coach Williams has come by to see me play, as well as Coach Haase. At this point they just want to be able to see me with my high school team and get a chance to see me play more."

The North Carolina visit was his seventh unofficial visit since July. He has also taken trips to North Carolina State, Virginia, Virginia Tech, Davidson, Richmond, William & Mary and Charlotte. Each school has been in to see him as well.

"The other schools that have come by are Michigan, Notre Dame, Kentucky, Indiana, Georgetown, Carolina, Bucknell and Miami," Kelly said.

The 6-foot-9, 195-pound power forward, who said he doesn't have any favorites at this point, currently holds scholarship offers from N.C. State, Virginia, Virginia Tech, Richmond, William & Mary and Davidson.

"I think that most of the schools are pretty much on an even tier," he said. "I'm just taking this opportunity to go visit some schools and not make decisions on who I like more at this point, but use it as an opportunity to narrow it down a little bit."
