Ward, a 5-foot-10, 190-pound tailback from Jonesboro (Ga.) Mount Zion, is scheduled to take the SAT this coming Saturday.
When permitted, Ward said he will schedule official visits with Louisville, Memphis, North Carolina, and South Carolina.
"[Those schools] gave me the most attention and I talk to those coaches and they want me to come down there [for an official visit] so that's why I decided I wanted to take visits [to those four schools]," Ward said.
Louisville and Memphis recently offered, while UNC and South Carolina have had scholarships on the table since the summer.
Ward hasn't taken any unofficial visits this fall, but plans to attend the South Carolina-Florida game in Columbia on November 10th.
Ward speaks weekly to South Carolina assistant coaches Tyrone Nix and Robert Gillespie, UNC coach Tommy Thigpen, and a representative of Louisville.
According to Ward, the Gamecocks are recruiting him the hardest and therefore have earned a slight lead.
"I'm pretty much open," Ward said. "If I'm leading anywhere it would be South Carolina a little bit. That's whose been keeping in contact with me the most."
Ward said he won't make a verbal commitment until after taking official visits to all four favorites. When he does make his final decision, he'll be focusing on location and comfort level at the school.
