Blue Hears from Butch Davis

While A.J. Blue hadn't yet heard from his primary recruiter at North Carolina, John Lovett, this week, a coach higher up the Tar Heel ladder contacted the 6-foot-1, 200-pound athlete from Dallas (N.C.) North Gaston.

"Coach [Butch] Davis called me at about 10 o'clock [Wednesday] night," Blue said. "Me and him just talked for a little bit. He wants me to come up to the Maryland game next weekend.

"It was more of just a check-in [conversation]. He just wanted to call to see what I've been up to. We talked about baseball a little bit. That was it."

Blue accepted Davis' invitation to visit, which will be of the unofficial variety.

During Wednesday night's conversation, Davis didn't discuss scheduling an official visit or the possibility of Blue verbally committing to the Tar Heels.

"He just said we'll talk more when I get up there next Saturday," Blue said.

Tennessee, which has increased its recruiting efforts, invited Blue to its game against South Carolina this weekend. However, Blue said he declined.

Blue obtained the results from the SAT he took earlier in the month, but has yet to see the test's outcome, as he wants to first focus on his team's biggest game of the season.

"I'm not going to look at it until after our game Friday," Blue said. "… We have a conference championship [Friday], so I'll look at it after [Friday]."

North Gaston hosts Belmont (N.C.) South Point Friday night in a game that will determine the Big South Conference Title.
