Nation's Top CB to Visit UNC

North Carolina will host Patrick Johnson, a Scout.com five-star recruit, on an official visit this coming weekend.

"I'm just coming to see the campus," Johnson said. "Coach [John] Blake wants me to come up there to see how I like it.

"I was supposed to visit already, but I kept pushing back the date because I've been real busy."

Blake has been in contact with Johnson, a 6-foot-1, 195-pound cornerback from Pompano Beach (Fla.) Blanche Ely, since the summer.

"We talk often," Johnson said. "[He talks about] getting up to see the campus and North Carolina.

"He said [the cornerback position at UNC] is wide open and I have a great opportunity to come in and play."

Johnson, who Scout.com ranks as the top cornerback in the nation, verbally committed to Miami back in April.

"Yes sir [I'm committed], but I'm still open," Johnson said.

Johnson says he "isn't sure yet" when he'll finalize his collegiate decision.

Thus far, Johnson has taken official visits to Florida, Georgia, and LSU. He says he'll save his final allotted official visit for Miami.

Johnson ended his senior season with 37 tackles and five interceptions. He returned an interception, a punt, and a kick for touchdowns.
