UNC Pursuing Ga. Athlete

Roughly a week after stopping by Perry (Ga.) High School, North Carolina assistant coach Tommy Thigpen made contact with Casey Hayward, a 6-foot-1, 185-pound athlete.

"I talked to him the end of last week," Hayward said. "He said they're looking at me to play either CB or FS. He said he wants me to play more of a CB. I'd be a taller CB coming in.

"He said he thought they were going to offer next week."

Hayward has already been offered a scholarship by Middle Tennessee, Southern Miss, Troy, and Vanderbilt.

During their brief conversation, Thigpen invited Hayward to Chapel Hill for an official visit.

"He wants me to come and visit on the 25th of January," Hayward said. "But I'm not sure that I'll be able to visit. I hope we can arrange it so I can visit before that [date]."

Originally, Hayward was scheduled to officially visit Middle Tennessee the weekend of January 25th.

"I might not take that visit [to MTSU] and take the North Carolina visit," Hayward said.

Hayward also has official visits scheduled with Troy (Jan. 11th) and Vanderbilt (Jan. 18th).

After taking all of his scheduled official visits, Hayward, who doesn't claim a leader, says he'll make a verbal commitment

A three-year starter at quarterback for Perry, Hayward ended his senior season by accumulating over 1,000 yards both through the air and on the ground.

Defensively, Hayward was used situationally starting less than half of his team's games this past fall. He said he still collected 27 tackles, five pass breakups, and four interceptions. He returned three of the four picks for scores.
