Sean May making progress

Freshman Sean May met with a doctor today to reevaluate the right knee sprain that he suffered in practice a week ago.

"Sean's knee was reevaluated today and the doctors are very satisfied with his progress," said Marc Davis, the men's basketball trainer. "He will be reevaluated again next week."

While May hasn't been able to participate in practice, he is off the crutches and has been working hard off the court to get ready for his return -- and prepare for the season that lies ahead.

"They have him doing various exercises at this time, in the pool and the tank, so that he's staying in shape and not putting any pounding on his knee," said a source close to the situation.

No specific date has been set yet for his return and the Tar Heels' first exhibition -- the Blue-White Game -- is less than two weeks away (Saturday, Nov. 2).

"The doctor said he was only a couple of weeks away," the source said.
