Strickland Narrows List

Dexter Strickland has narrowed down his list to just two schools, with one that's now out in front. Inside Carolina got the scoop from Strickland Friday night in Houston ...

HOUSTON -- Dexter Strickland came out hot against Houston (Tex.) Madison in the Houston vs. The Nation event and he led St. Patrick, which is now ranked No. 1 in the national high school poll, to a victory over Houston (Tex.) Madison.

"I think I played pretty well," Strickland said. "I didn't have to rush shots and my teammates did a good job trying to get me the ball. I think I also did a pretty good job of trying to get them involved as well."

Strickland started the game off with a few nice drives to the basket and then he started mixing in jump shots, including a three-pointer from the wing. His first half play set the tone for the rest of the game as the Celtics went on to win 79-67.

For the game the 6-foot-3 combo guard scored 18 points on 8-of-14 shooting. But he did more than just score, as he grabbed 7 rebounds and tossed out 5 assists.

"I feel like since Corey [Fisher] and Jeff [Robinson] left that I needed to put this team on my back," said Strickland, who is rated the No. 1 point guard in the junior class by "I'm just trying to build up this team and get them pumped up."

Following the game Strickland confirmed that he's down to a pair of schools.

"[Recruiting has] been going really well," he said. "I'm really interested in UNC, UNC and Florida, but I'm leaning towards UNC."

"I'll probably make my decision later on in the season," he continued. "I think I've been to enough schools where I could make my pick between UNC and Florida and like I said I'm leaning towards UNC."

Strickland, who said he doesn't plan to take any more visits, broke down both of the schools remaining on his list, and he likes each school for similar reasons.

"I just like everything [about Florida]," he said. "I like their coaching staff, their facilities and the players."

"Roy Williams is a good friend," Strickland said when asked about his interest in UNC. "I like their coaching staff, the players on the team and basically everything. It's a nice gym too. I like their gym."

Strickland said that he could make his decision sometime later in the season, but at this point he's just enjoying the process.

"I think it's fun. When I was little I never thought that I would be playing basketball and getting phone calls from Roy Williams and Billy Donovan. It's actually really exciting for me."
