Davidson Going Through the Process

Immediately following his North Carolina official visit, Herman Davidson listed the Tar Heels as his leader. Since that point nearly two months ago, things have changed slightly for the 6-foot-2, 200-pound safety.

"Being that I've only been on two [official] trips so far, I would definitely have to say that the schools I've been to are my top schools – which is Michigan and North Carolina," Davidson said. "I just want to take all my trips [before I name a leader]. That way I can really get a better idea on how I want to base which schools I like best."

Davidson, from Long Beach (Calif.) Poly, is scheduled to officially visit Miami on January 18th. He's in the process of finalizing his fourth official trip with California, and will choose between Arizona State and LSU for his last official visit.

"I'm looking for the environment that I feel me coming in as a freshman I can contribute a lot to, as well as me getting there and enjoying the atmosphere, and coaching staff and players – like one big family," Davidson said.

Since his trip to Chapel Hill, Davidson has added scholarship offers from Arizona State, Miami, Michigan, and Mississippi.

UNC has continued to recruit Davidson hard.

"[The UNC coaches] have been very good on [communication]," Davidson said. "I've stayed in contact with them a lot actually – I can say more than any other college so far."

Three UNC assistant coaches keep in regular contact with Davidson: John Blake, Chuck Pagano, and Charlie Williams.

"It's pretty much split up evenly between those three [coaches]," Davidson said. "Usually once or so a week they would give me a call [and] give me updates, just making sure I'm interested, and just checking up on me and seeing how I am."

Davidson has hosted Blake and Williams separately for in-home visits. Outside of UNC, no other school has made a trip to Davidson's residence.

"That's just a chance for them to really meet with my parents and things like that," Davidson said. "Most of that is the educational side and things about the campus. Most of it is for my parents, but they talk to me, let me know more info about the football program, and where they're going with that."

Davidson's teammate, Vaughn Telemaque, is also being recruited by UNC as well as Miami and Michigan. While the two compare recruiting notes, they aren't a package deal.

"We're not planning on going to a school together," Davidson said. "If it just so happens that both of us are interested in the same school that would be a good thing. But, we're not basing our decisions off each other at all."
