Dennard Offered, Sets Official

Alphonzo Dennard received a late Christmas present from Tommy Thigpen, his primary recruiter at North Carolina – a UNC scholarship offer.

"Last Saturday they offered," Dennard said. "Coach [Thigpen] gave me a call. He said they have a spot left at corner. We also scheduled a visit for next weekend [Jan. 18th]."

Dennard, a 5-foot-10, 185-pound cornerback from Rochelle (Ga.) Wilcox Co., will officially visit Troy this coming weekend and UAB the weekend of January 25th.

Dennard said he was pleased to add UNC to his stack of scholarship offers that already included Alabama, UAB, Central Michigan, Clemson, Purdue, Troy, and Western Michigan.

"I was pretty happy," Dennard said. "I like North Carolina a lot. [I like] the coaching staff and Butch Davis."

Dennard said UNC and Troy are his co-leaders, making these next two weekends crucial to his recruitment.

"[I'm going to be looking at] how soon they want me to play," Dennard said. "I want to check out the facilities and get to know the players."

Dennard doesn't plan on making a verbal commitment until after taking all of his official visits.
