Dennard Joins UNC Family

Alphonzo Dennard didn't wait for the Tar Heel staff to arrive for Monday's in-home visit. The a 5-10, 185-pound cornerback from Rochelle (Ga.) Wilcox County, told InsideCarolina.com that he committed to North Carolina late Sunday night.

"We were talking about the [in-home] visit and you can say I committed," Dennard said. "They said 'Welcome to the family,' they're glad to have me."

For Dennard, Butch Davis and UNC's coaching staff made the difference.

"They're good people," Dennard said. "And I wanted to be apart of their program."

Dennard will come into UNC as a cornerback, but he could see some time on offense.

"They really don't know yet, because they also want me for receiver," Dennard said.

Butch Davis and primary recruiter Tommy Thigpen are expected to arrive at Dennard's home at 1 p.m. for an in-home visit to firm the situation up.

Dennard is scheduled to officially visit UAB on February 1st and has been talking with Indiana about setting up an official trip. He said he is now leaning towards canceling those visits.
