S.C. DB Commits to UNC

Taylor Sowell has become the Tar Heels' second commitment from the 2009 class, Inside Carolina has learned. Sowell is a 6-0, 174-pound junior defensive back at Roebuck (S.C.) Dorman High School.

"He was outstanding for us," said Roebuck (S.C.) Dorman head football coach Dave Gutshall. "He's very physical. He plays the corner position, but plays like a linebacker. He led our team in interceptions [as a junior]. He's very solid."

Sowell recorded six interceptions last season.

"He has great ball instincts," said Dorman assistant coach Jerton Evans. "He knows where everybody is on the field and that's how he makes big plays. He's a very, very smart player and a leader by example."

Sowell is North Carolina's second commitment for the 2009 class, joining Cheshire (Conn.) wide receiver Joshua Adams.

"I feel like it's the education; it's very well known all over the country," Evans said of why Sowell chose to commit to North Carolina. "And regardless of where you go, you are going to hear about that baby blue and white. They're an ACC school, they're always competing, and you can always count on a good program coming from that school."
