UNC Picks Up Five Commitments

Inside Carolina has learned that the Tar Heels received five 2009 commitments during their Junior Day event Saturday in Chapel Hill.

* Smithfield (N.C.) Smithfield-Selma teammates Justin Dixon and D.J. Bunn were offered scholarships and committed.

Dixon is a 6-foot-3, 225-pound linebacker, while Bunn is a 5-foot-11, 195-pound athlete.

* Inside Carolina has also learned that the Tar Heels received a commitment from Monroe (N.C.) Sun Valley standout Vincent "Ray-Ray" Davis.

The 6-1, 195-pound wide receiver recorded a combined 132 receptions and nearly 1,900 yards over the past two seasons, earning all-state honors in 2006.

* Another player projected to play wideout at UNC is Joshua McKie, of Mauldin (S.C.), who also committed this weekend. McKie starred at quarterback for Mauldin, but has talked to the UNC staff about joining Charlie Williams' wide receiver corps in Chapel Hill.

* Lastly, UNC got a commitment from Hunter Furr, a 6-0, 205-pound running back from Winston-Salem (N.C.) Mount Tabor, who has been clocked at under 4.3 in the 40-yard dash.
