Kendall Marshall's Journal - Feb. '08

Future Tar Heel Kendall Marshall, a 6-3 sophomore point guard at Arlington (Va.) Bishop O'Connell, keeps Tar Heel fans updated on his path to Chapel Hill with regular journal entries at

In his February entry, Marshall updates the season, as his team enters postseason play, and recaps two recent trips to UNC.

The past month we've been playing very well as a team. We got upset one game and that was kind of disheartening. We've lost two games, but we've also won the past three weeks and we are playing well. We are 23-5. We are happy to be going into the playoffs with the second seed. I've picked up my play lately, which I'm happy about. I'm just trying to help my team win.

I haven't shot the ball the way I've wanted to the whole season. The past two weeks I've had three or four games where I've hit at least five threes, so I'm happy that I'm starting to find my stroke, but still get my team involved.

The playoffs start next Friday. We tip off our WCAC tournament and we'll play on Friday and Sunday, then the championship will be on Tuesday, so we are hoping to finish well in that. Then the following weekend we'll head down to the states with Benedictine with Ed Davis and hopefully end up playing them in the championship. Then March 13 through the 15th we go up to Cumberland, Md. for the Alhambra Tournament. I think Gonzaga and Benedictine will be in it and DeMatha.

I went down for the Maryland and Duke games. It was great. The atmosphere and the fan support that they continuously get every game is nice to see. It's nice to see the team and knowing that I'm going to be there in a couple of years and seeing myself playing was just a great experience. I'm going to also go Sunday to the Wake Forest game.

Before the Duke game I got to go into the locker room for the pre-game speech. Just listening to Coach Williams and what he said, they knew it was a big game going into it, but he kept the mood light and kept telling them what to do, but also didn't want to pressure them and that was good to see.

I think we going to be extremely talented for the next six years and hopefully more after that. Also it's a plus that we are all already talking to each other and getting to know each other. That's a big plus. Hopefully with Nolan [Dennis] and Leslie [McDonald] we can get one of them in the ‘09 class to finish the puzzle.
