* Former Tar Heel Dante Calabria arrived in Italy on Saturday to begin a one-week tryout with Italian League defending champion Benetton Treviso. Calabria has been sidelined since January due to an ankle injury that required surgery.

The Benetton roster includes Americans Trajan Langdon (Duke) and Tyus Edney (UCLA). This is Calabria's seventh year as a pro since graduating from North Carolina in 1996.

* Some Blue-White game stats you might have missed -- Jason Capel helped the Blue to a 97-94 win over the White with 13 points, 10 rebounds and 5 assists. That was the Fayetteville Patriots (NBDL) Blue-White game played last Tuesday at Campbell University.

The Fayetteville Observer will have a feature story on Fayetteville natives Jason Capel and his brother, Jeff, the new coach at VCU, in Tuesday's edition.

* The CSP Limoges (France - Pro A) Tar Heel backcourt of Derrick Phelps and Donald Williams combined for 32 points yesterday in an 87-79 loss that drops the team record to 2-4.

Phelps scored 20 points and had four steals. Williams point total of 12 makes reduced his scoring average to 21.7 per game making him the league's #2 scorer. Phelps is second in steals with 19 (3.2 pg) and averages 16.3 points.

* Jerry Stackhouse had a week that could earn him the NBA's Eastern Conference Player of the Week. Stackhouse led the Wizards to three wins while scoring 91 (35, 29, 27) points (30.3 ppg).

The highlight was Friday night's dunk at the buzzer that gave Washington a one-point win over the Lakers.

Through seven games "Stack" has been an awesome 64-of-68 (94.1%) from the free throw line.
