"I thought it was a good game," Travis Wear said. "We are all new playing together. This was our first week playing together, so it's going to take some time. I think we came out and played pretty hard."
After their first contest, Travis and his brother David picked up their level of play. Against Full Package Elite, Travis got more active inside. He blocked a few shots, scored off of a right hook and managed to get a bunch of finishes at the rim.
As a team, SCA got it together as they made a run through the playoffs before losing to Indiana Elite One in the semifinals.
Travis said he is limiting the events that he plays in this year. He's scheduled to participate in the Tournament of Champions in North Carolina the weekend of May 23-25. He'll also play in the NBPA Camp and at the USA Basketball tryouts.
"It's a huge weight off of my shoulders, having already chosen a college," Wear said. "You get to work on your game more instead of having to go to every event to get ranked. I can get in the gym and get big and work on my jumper."
Wear, who is ranked No. 33 in the rising senior class by Scout.com, said his ultimate goal for the summer is to continue to prepare for North Carolina. His daily workout consists of an hour of shooting and another hour in the weight room.
While his brother's game is more perimeter oriented, Travis gets his work down in the paint – hence the importance of focusing on the weight room. It was clear this weekend that he has added some bulk in recent months.
"I think I have a target on my chest," he said. "I have to come out and play hard every single night."
